The Public Ledger was an iconic daily newspaper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, published from March 25, 1836 to January 1942. The building that housed it is located directly across from Independence Square Park and a few minutes from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. The building was recently converted into luxury residences, and I was hired to develop the branding and to design and build the website. I knew I had to leverage the building’s storied history and promote its unparalleled location with its stunning views of the park and iconic tower.
Of all the concepts I presented, the one that resonated the most was the tower. It immediately places the building in both time and location, and promotes one of the building’s key selling points – the spectacular view. The tower motif is used with and without the wordmark and has become a recognizable symbol on its own. The logo plays up the building’s sense of tradition and history but feels contemporary and fresh. For the website, we played up the stunning photography, especially the spectacular images of the view. Visit the website: www.ledgerphilly.com
